Premier Apartments Liverpool – Blog on Liverpool
Welcome at

We are delighted that our property Premier Apartments Liverpool has once again been short-listed as a finalist in the Liverpool City Region Annual Tourism Awards 2012. This is a great achievement for the hard working team and we thank all our happy guests for taking time to post their on-line reviews and feedback as these do make a difference. A panel of experienced industry Judges have completed the first round of assessment to review the achievements of more than 100 entrants to determine the shortlist. The awards are designed to acknowledge excellence and quality across the Merseyside visitor economy and celebrate the work of all that work in the industry to create a welcoming and memorable experience for all our visitors.

The results of the final judging are announced in June so we all have everything crossed that we can add another Award to our trophy cabinet!

What is your perception of Liverpool on a Friday night?  Streets of late night revellers?  Hen and stag Parties? Well perhaps sometimes in some areas this may be the case (as in most cities), but not always… Liverpool continues to embrace its wealth of arts and culture by hosting a unique event on Friday 18 May 2012, the city will be illuminated with exciting events well into the night as ‘Light Night Liverpool‘ unfolds.

Light Night Liverpool 2011

All the major museums, galleries, heritage sites, and cathedrals – complemented by an array of smaller venues – will be opening their doors from 4pm and not closing until well into the night. This is a truly inspiring way to experience the city with venues putting on all manner of events (majority free!)

Highlights include dazzling architectural light projections, a candle lit labyrinth at the Metropolitan cathedral, Razzle Dazzle at TATE Liverpool (music dancing and film inspired by the fabulous 1940’s) James & The Giant Peach performed via shadow puppetry at The Brink, Liverpool town hall enlightened with live performance – this is just a small taste of what you may be missing out on if you stay at home with your usual night in front of the television with a takeaway. Why not be different and lighten your spring weekend and come along, we have still got apartments available and we are within walking distance of most participating venues. Please visit lightnightliverpool.co.uk for more details and to register for updates.

This weekend, the great street theatre company Royal De Luxe will be bringing the Little Girl Giant to Liverpool. It promises to be one of the UK’s most spectacular events this year.

Sea Odyssey is fitting tribute to a story told about a stowaway: loaded onboard during the night, unnoticed the stowaway would be a thirty foot giant capable of travelling through time on his way to see his daughter, Little Giant. This is a story of and a magical tale of love, loss and reunion.

April is upon us which means Liverpool once again plays host to the biggest event on the racing calendar; The John Smith’s Grand National. It’s one of the busiest times at Premier Apartments Liverpool as we welcome both new guests and old friends as the build up to the big race starts!

The race has a long history and started out with horses jumping a stone wall followed by crossing a stretch of ploughed land which acted as the racecourse. They would finish the race over two hurdles. On 26th February 1839, Lottery became the very first winner of the official Grand National. It was a gentleman named Mr Edward William Topham who turned the race into a handicap in 1843. John Smith took over the sponsorship of the race from Martell in 2005 and this year the prize fund has reached a record £975,000. Will you be as lucky with your bet this year…..??

The three day event is kicked off on 12th April when the festival is opened by Olympic hopeful, Beth Tweddle who will officially open the festival following a sky dive into the Aintree by The Red Devils. Also on the 12th, some of Liverpool’s finest comedian’s from Comedy Central such as Javier Jarquin, Peter Antoniou and Christian Steel will perform in a series of pop-up gigs. As well as comedy, racegoers will also be treated to performances from bands such The Merseybeats, The Amazing Kappa and a closing performance from The Christians.

The second day of the festival, 13th April is known as one of the biggest social and most stylish days out in the North West, giving everyone a chance to showcase the outfits they’ve been planning since the start of the year. The date is highlighted on everyone’s calendar and this year is no exception! The day features a Style Contest giving participants the chance to win a host of prizes including £5,000 cash and a £500 bet on the big race itself! So if you’re heading to Liverpool for Ladies Day, why not enter yourself?! http://www.aintree.co.uk/style

Saturday 14th April is the day that everyone has been waiting for. The John Smith’s Grand National. Aintree, the home of the festival will be swamped with thousands of people tightly clutching their betting slips as they eagerly stare at the track, shouting encouragement from the stands. The race is famously known as being one of the toughest races in the world. It is over four miles long and features over 30 testing fences which make it exceptionally difficult to finish, let alone win! The minimum height for the fences, excluding the Water Jump, is 4ft 6inches and there are in fact only 16 fences on the entire course. The first 14 of these are jumped twice to make up the full 30 fences in the race. As of yet, the official list of runners and riders hasn’t been announced but it’s likely last year’s winner, Ballabriggs, will be taking to the course again. It really is a once in a lifetime experience and the reason we have guests returning year after year!

If you’re heading to this years Grand National, we’d be more than happy to help with directions and information about how best to travel to Aintree, who knows, we might even be able to offer you a tip or two…!

Some people may say watching the Russian state ballet of Siberia’s production of the Swan Lake at the Empire Theatre; others may say it was the JLS 4th Dimension tour performance at the Echo. Sport fans would say watching Everton win against Tottenham or the Liverpool vs. Arsenal game. Most of us would say St. Patrick’s weekend… For us at Premier Apartments it was welcoming and being a part of each and every one of our guests experience of Liverpool.

As we journey forward to the prospects of April, spend a minute and reflect on the month of March, for us at the apartments, March started off with a fervent roar as the city welcomed the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2012. We welcomed many families; there is nothing greater than having kids passionately share their experiences about the Chester Zoo or the Knowsley Safari adventure park.

With Easter round the corner we are excited to welcome back both old and new guests to the apartments as we embark on another journey as the year progresses. It is exhilarating just thinking of the celebrations which are yet to come, whether is in the form of an anniversary, honeymoon, stag or hen nights or just a break away…

What was your best part of March…? Write a post because at Premier Apartments Liverpool we are not just a place to stay but we like to think it’s your home away from home.

HMS Liverpool to again visit the city in March 2012

The end of this month brings a sad day with the final visit of HMS Liverpool before she is decommissioned. This impressive vessel is a Type-42 destroyer and was forged in the city back in 1978. Most recently she played an active role in the frontline against Gadaffi’s forces in Libya. She will have a more peaceful final berthing in sight of the famous Three Graces in the city that had bestowed her with the Freedom of the City last year. HMS Liverpool will be in the city from 29 February to 5 March 2012 and the crew will exercise their right as freemen to march through the city on March 2. The public will be able to board the famous ship on 3 and 4 March for limited times supported by a full programme of events to celebrate HMS Liverpool’s links with our city.

TripAdvisor has been in the media a lot over recent weeks; a major hotel group allegedly requesting staff to post fake reviews, angry hoteliers threatening legal action for bad reviews and impact on their business – including Dragons Den panellist Duncan Bannatyne for a post that described his Charlton House Spa Hotel in Somerset to Fawlty Towers, and the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority has just order the UK site to rewrite some of its claims as it cannot be proved that reviews are ‘honest’ and ‘trusted’

TripAdvisor - reviews you can trust?

What do we think? Opinions of our customers are extremely valuable, analysing this helps us to identify any weakness or areas our customers feel we need to improve, and on the flip side the positive feedback is a great morale boost to all the team and highlights the impact that every person in every role has to the success of the business. We as a business are not perfect (but we are only human!) and when things go wrong the true test of our skills is how we react. Anyone in the service industry must tackle complaints in a positive and constructive manner; issues can’t just be brushed under the carpet as some people perhaps used to do when complaints were written letters and a ‘behind closed doors’ affair. We believe that readers of reviews will get a good overall picture of what to expect by reading the site and the TripAdvisor concept is to be embraced.
